Castillo Recognizes Forest Grove Project
as Outstanding Community/School Partnership
State Superintendent Susan Castillo issued a press release naming the City of Forest Grove and the Forest Grove School District as an Outstanding Community/School Partnership in 2006. The City and School District were recognized for their “Youth Matters” program which was launched as part of E3’s Partnership for Student Success program and connects businesses and community groups with schools to support students.
“Teamwork and partnerships are wise investments in our schools, our students, their families, and our communities. By pooling our resources and services, we ensure that each and every child is given the best chance to succeed,” Castillo said in her release. “When every community puts education first, the needs of ALL children are met through the work of family, community members, and school leaders.”
Youth Matters is a community initiative to raise awareness of the 40 Developmental Assets and to create a culture where all adults feel a responsibility for youth. Forest Grove collaborated with many areas of the community, including the school district, the city, Pacific University, civic organizations, schools, parents, as well as Hispanic, business and faith communities. The leadership team, facilitated by an E3 program manager, adopted 40 developmental assets that young people need in their lives to help them grow up and be successful. A variety of after school and summer programs support improving those 40 developmental assets. Forest Grove is also planning for the future, with a goal of creating a community Youth Center in coming years.
“Forest Grove’s Youth Matters! Program is an exceptional community initiative. Their strong vision and clear goals are exciting and promising,” Castillo said.
Congratulations to the City of Forest Grove, the Forest Grove School District and all of the business and community partners who are making “Youth Matters” a big success in their community!
